Law Society Jewish Wedding Photography
One of the great things about being a London wedding photographer, is the beautiful buildings I am invited to photograph as part of my job. London is filled with impressive wedding venues, period architecture and modern style, and the Law Society is no exception. When Zara and Ben invited me to be their Law Society wedding photographer, I was honoured. Not only are Zara and Ben a lovely couple, but they had chosen a great venue.
The Law Society is a venues with impressive detailing. As I looked up to photograph the iconic wrought iron sign at the front of the building, I noticed the imposing yet delicately sculpted marble flowers above. The elegant marble columns tower above the entrance, meaning you cannot help but gasp as you walk into this impressive building.
I specialise in reportage style wedding photography, and this is why Zara and Ben chose me to photograph their Jewish wedding at the Law Society in London. Zara and Ben didn’t want posed shots, they simply wanted natural photographs that would really tell the story of their day. They asked me to photograph everything - the big moments, the little moments, and the smiles on the faces of their guests.
Jewish Wedding Photography at The Law Society in London
Zara and Ben had chosen not to have posed photographs, opting instead for me to capture events as they unfolded. I wanted to capture the traditions included in their Jewish wedding ceremony. In Jewish weddings, it is traditional for the bride to wear a veil until she greets her husband. Her husband then lifts the veil to check it is really her before the ceremony begins. As I was waiting outside the ceremony with the bridal party, I took a great candid shot of Zara’s dad lifting the veil up to cover his daughter. Zara was nervous, excited and outwardly calm at this moment, and I hope this photograph always reminds her of the butterflies she felt at that moment. I also hope it reminds her father of the pride and emotions he felt at that moment, as he prepared to give away his daughter.
This was a real family wedding with barefoot children running laughing down the hallway, sleepy toddlers with their arms around their father’s necks, and giggling sounds coming from underneath tables. There is a great photograph of a group of children playing after the ceremony. In mid-flight, the children are laughing and squealing in delight as they let off steam before the sit down meal.
I took photographs as Zara and Ben cut the cake, and there is a great photo of them both holding the knife as they cut through that delicious looking cake. The beautiful stained glass window, heavy velvet curtains and gold framed portrait in the background set the scene perfectly.
The dance floor was lively all evening, and I took lots of photographs of guests having fun. There are some fantastic photographs showing the newlyweds dancing with their friends and family. I photographed the Hora, with the couple looking surprisingly relaxed as they were lifted on chairs.I love photographing traditions and rituals, and love how involved the guests get with each tradition. There is a great photo of Zara and Ben sat on chairs held in the air by friends and family, while the younger guests look on in amazement.
The Law Society is famous for its iconic bookcases. These towering bookcases stretch almost to the ceiling, and fill the room from wall to wall. Each shelf is filled with leather-bound academic-looking law books. They make the perfect backdrop for a Law Society wedding. Zara and Ben didn’t want any posed shots, but I was able to get a great photograph of them in front of these bookshelves. As the couple shared a private world, I photographed them from the next room. The couple are framed by the magnificent marble columns. Zara and Ben chose this venue because of its rich history, and I think this photograph captures this perfectly.
I specialise in reportage style photography, but also offer a mix of posed and artistic shots. My photographs tell a story - your story. I hope that each time you look through your wedding photographs, you will be transported back to that day.
