Tower Bridge Wedding Photography | Colin and Melanie

Tower Bridge Wedding Photography

Mel and Colin are such a perfect couple, and I was honored when they chose me to be their Tower Bridge wedding photographer. I’d never photographed a wedding at this location before, but was really looking forward to it. Tower Bridge has won awards for being a unique and impressive London venue, and I knew that the views alone would make the perfect backdrop for a wedding album.

Mel and Colin were both getting ready at a hotel near the venue, and this meant I was able to photograph them both on the morning of the wedding. I usually start my day photographing the bride, and occasionally the groom, but it is rare for me to be invited to join both.

Colin invited me along to photograph him having a traditional shave on the morning of the wedding. I was looking forward to capturing this tradition, and took a great photograph of the barber with his shaving blade to Colin’s face. We took a black cab back to the hotel, passing over Tower Bridge on our way. As we drove away from the bridge, with the iconic tower visible through the cab’s back window, I took a photograph of Colin. He was happy and smiling, and didn’t seem at all nervous to be exchanging vows in just for a few hours.

Once back at the hotel I went to join Mel and her bridesmaids as they finished getting ready. I photographed Mel as she was fastened into her wedding dress, and as her bridesmaid and best friend help her into her lace shrug. It’s always an honour to be invited to capture the pre-wedding rituals.

The ceremony itself was beautiful, emotional and great to photograph. Mel and Colin asked me to capture the ceremony as it happened, so that the photographs would help to tell the story of the wedding. The ceremony room was beautiful, and sunlight poured in through the cathedral windows overlooking London. One of my favourite photographs shows the couple exchanging rings, surrounded by their close friends and family.

Tower Bridge is a beautiful venue, and the weather was perfect so we were able to climb out onto the top platform for photographs. As Mel was about to climb out onto the top of Tower Bridge, Colin helped her to sort out her dress. Mel’s dress had a beautiful train that swept out behind her as she walked. Beautiful as it was, it wouldn’t have been very safe at the top of the bridge, so Colin tied it back for her. The black and white photograph looks stunning, with the view from Tower Bridge visible through the cathedral windows behind Colin.

It’s a good thing none of us were scared of heights, because it was quite high up, and cars were hurtling past below. There is a great photograph of Mel and Colin when they first stepped out onto the platform, they look happy and excited (if a bit scared). London’s iconic skyline stretches out into the distance, with trees and greenery visible below.

Colin was given a pocket watch to wear on the day, and this had great sentimental value for him. I photographed the watch alongside his cufflinks before the wedding, but wanted to include another shot of the pocket watch for him. As the newlyweds stood at the top of the tower, I took a photograph of Colin looking at his watch, as Mel gazed out over the traffic below.

Mel and Colin are, as well as being very much in love, a fun couple to be around. I knew their wedding was going to be special, and I wasn’t disappointed. Their first dance was a perfectly choreographed routine, carefully designed to fit in the space available. The celebrations were held above Tower Bridge, in the long glass corridors that look out onto the city.
