Dartmouth House Wedding Photography | Rebecca + Duncan

Dartmouth House Wedding Photographer

I was invited to photograph Rebecca and Duncan’s big day at Dartmouth House London. It’s a beautiful location, with plenty of stunning features that look great in photographs. There is elegant marble and beautiful mahogany wood reaching out as far as they eye can see. Rebecca and Duncan are a lovely couple, and I was honoured to be invited to capture the day for them. Rebecca and Duncan wanted a stylish day with stylish wedding photographs to match. I met with the couple before the day to discuss what they wanted from their wedding album, and the sort of photographs they hoped to see in there.

Rebecca and Duncan asked me to use documentary style photography to capture the day in progress. I started my day with Rebecca and her bridesmaids as they began preparations in the bridal suite. I stayed with the wedding party until the end of Rebecca and Duncan’s first dance as husband and wife. Rebecca and Duncan asked me to capture the day as a fly on the wall. I made sure to capture the raw emotion of the day, and there are lots of photos of Rebecca and Duncan laughing and smiling on what was undoubtedly one of the happiest days of their lives.

As a wedding photographer, I am charged with capturing the moments that people will want to remember forever. All couples are different, and it is my job to tune in to the wants and needs of each individual couple. One of my favourite shots is of Rebecca climbing the imposing staircase at Dartmouth House. She is followed by her father and bridesmaid, and her dress and veil are trailing behind her. This wasn’t a staged photo, I simply took it as Rebecca made her way to the ceremony. I hope that each time she looks at it, she is reminded of how she felt at that moment - nervous and excited, as she walked towards her soon-to-be husband.

As a Dartmouth House wedding photographer, I know the layout and beauty of this elegant London venue. Located in the heart of London’s Mayfair, this elegant mansion boasts an enclosed courtyard for wedding guests to enjoy. Originally constructed in the 16th century, and respectfully converted into a luxury townhouse in the 19th century, the building is Grade II listed because of its rich history.

Dartmouth House has a number of unique and outstanding features to offer a wedding photographer. The large majestic staircase and imposing wrought iron balustrades are beautiful, and look great in Rebecca and Duncan’s wedding photographs. The ceremony itself took place in a grand room with engraved wooden walls which look beautiful in the photographs. The classic wedding colours of ivory and deep red look beautiful set against the dark wood.

Rebecca and Duncan wanted me to use a mix of photography styles on the day. I specialise in reportage style wedding photography, using photojournalism skills to capture the day as it happens, as well as the more traditional posed shots. After the ceremony, we made our way round the venue taking stylish posed shots of the newlyweds. There is a lovely shot of them by one of Dartmouth House’s towering windows. The backdrop is relatively plan, although the wooden panelling and embroidered curtains set the scene. Rebecca and Duncan are standing together, looking into the camera, as the natural daylight reflects round the room.

My role as a Dartmouth House wedding photographer is to capture the memories from the day. I work my way around the venue, paying close attention to details, and photographing events as they unfold. The bride and groom are often busy hosting the event, chatting to old friends and stealing quiet moments. It’s impossible for them to be everywhere at once, and I feel it is my job to capture some of the moments they miss.
