WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER ISRAEL
I was absolutely thrilled to be invited to Israel to photograph the wedding of Merav and Andy. I am a keen traveller, and love when my work takes me to new and exciting places. Israel is a beautiful country, and I was really looking forward to capturing Merav and Andy’s special day.I was working alongside another wedding photographer, Asaf, who I have been lucky enough to work with on a number of jobs this year. Asaf and I work really well together, and have a great working relationship. If you want to have two wedding photographers, it makes sense to choose two who can work well together. Asaf and I have different styles, so Merav and Andy will have had quite a few beautiful photographs to treasure.
Merav and Andy are such a lovely couple. They spoke excitedly of their wedding plans, and I knew it was going to be a great day. Merav and Andy are a fun couple and share a great sense of humour. Their wedding was the perfect mix of traditional, modern and quirky - just like the couple themselves.
Merav and Andy picked a truly breath-taking location for their wedding. The hotel was right on the coast, and the view from the bridal suite showed the beautiful ocean reaching out into the distance. As Merav and her bridesmaid prepared for the day, the sound of the ocean filled the room. The sunlight was streaming through the windows as Merav showed off her wedding dress for the first time.
Unlike at English weddings, where tradition dictates that the groom shouldn’t see the bride before the ceremony, in Israel it is normal for the couple to meet. The posed wedding photographs are taken before the ceremony. I spent a couple of hours with Merav, Andy and their wedding party, capturing posed photographs for their wedding album.
One of the couple’s favourite shots from the day, was taken during a stroll on the beach at sunset. The silhouette of the couple sharing a kiss stands out against the stunningly beautiful sunset. The sun is shining between the couple as it departs beneath the horizon. It’s a very beautiful shot, although I don’t think I can take credit for the beauty of a sunset.
The location for the ceremony was simply perfect. The chuppah was hidden amongst an idyllic garden, filled with rich greens and tall trees, and the white chairs were seated in a grassy clearing. The ceremony took place in the evening, and the wedding was lit by the light of the moon. It was such a great looking venue, I made sure I got a few photographs of it all before the guests arrived.
I specialise in documentary style Jewish wedding photography, and am able to capture the mood of the wedding with this technique. Merav and Andy asked me to use this reportage style photography to capture the guests at the ceremony. These photos are beautiful because they capture the raw emotions of the day. Rather than just focusing on the wedding party, these photographs highlight the emotions and experiences of all of the guests at the wedding that day, and that’s exactly what Merav and Andy wanted to see.
After the evening ceremony, it was time for the reception. As these take place later in the day than English wedding receptions, there is usually a party atmosphere straight away. Merav and Andy love a good party, so I was sure there guests would be in for a good night. Merav and Andy were having lots of fun, and I took quite a few photos of them on the dancefloor together, and laughing with friends. Everyone was having a great time, and I used reportage style wedding photography to capture the party so that Merav and Andy (and their guests) can look back and see what a great wedding it was.
